Ethics of Humor and Cultural Diversity
Abstract
I understand humor as the ability to perceive something as funny, which activates the emotion of mirth, expressed through a smile or laughter. The threshold for perceiving something as funny and experiencing mirth may vary from one individual to another or within the same individual, for different reasons, and one of them is their ethics education. The ethics of humor tries to teach in the ethical humor, to learn how to laugh at the right time, at the right level and for justified reasons. Humor has ethical boundaries that is important to note. We cannot hide behind the phrase "it was just a joke" to host derogatory comments. We will have to face the conflict between protecting freedom of expression and protecting those who may be victims of misuse. Humor can help develop a critical view of our own culture.Downloads
