Disability, Enhancement, and Equality
Abstract
In this paper I defend that equality of opportunities among intellectually disabled and non-disabled individuals requires the implementation of some sort of human enhancement. For this I first present two conceptions of disability: natural disability and social disability. Secondly, I introduce the case of intellectual disability to show how it poses a problem for the social account of disability. I then show how enhancement solves the problem of inequality of opportunities for each understanding of disability and answer some potential objections towards the account I propose. Finally, I conclude with a potential problem for my account that has to do with how to understand relative inequality.Downloads
