Bioethics of the Care Relationship: The Deliberative Model as a Proposal against Lack of Respect, Abuse and Obstetric Violence in Childbirth Attendance
Abstract
Childbirth care models have begun to be questioned in recent decades. In 2008, the Spanish Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs published its "Strategy for normal birth care". In relation to respect for women"™s autonomy, the design of "birth plans" has been promoted. Despite these changes, groups of users continue to express their discontent and occasionally report receiving inadequate and disrespectful care. The term "obstetric violence" is being used more and more widely. The clinical application of a model of deliberative communication, which recognizes the principle of women"™s autonomy in decision-making can be a key element in improving maternal satisfaction, enhancing the responsibility of mothers and professionals, and reducing the hierarchical and patriarchal practices classified as obstetric violence. But this model can only be implemented if there is a commitment from the health organization itself.Downloads
