Ethics, an Interdisciplinary Tool against Diagnosis Inflation in the Field of Mental Health

Abstract

The purpose of this article is reclaim the ethics relevance, in the comprehensive of the diagnosis inflation problem. To achieve the meaning aim, we are going to analyze six aspects, which are the most important in this business. These are: the psychiatric diagnosis, as a philosophical issue, which is the entrance (or beginning) for the mental health world; the DSM- 5 in comparative way with the DSM-IV and the DSM- IV-TR; the theoretical setting used in the understanding and application of the mental health criteria; the ethic education of the psychiatric professionals; the pharmaceutic marketing and the health speech, comprehended like a consum property. The investigation of all of these factors it will lead for the ethic reflexion but always in a interdisciplinary structure, because the diagnosis inflation is a multidimensional (or figurative) problem.
