Surrogacy from a Biomedical Perspective: What the Scientific Debate May Add to Ethical Discussion
Abstract
In surrogacy, there are hardly any scientific studies about the short and long term consequences in pregnant women’ and infants’ physical and mental health. There is indeed solid evidence about the negative impact on the health of mother and baby related to every single factor that breaks a healthy bond between them, from the moment of conception to the first years of life. We will analyze that evidence in this article, which is the result of a bibliographic review, aspiring to add the scientific debate arguments to the ethical debate on surrogate gestation.
