Karl Popper’s Theory of Democracy and Majority Principle
Abstract
In this article I investigate Karl R. Popper’s theory of democracy from a critical point of view. Firstly, I review the foundation of his critique of the “theory of sovereignty” and, secondly, the paradoxical relation between Popper’s conception of democracy and the Principle of Majority. Finally, I discuss Popper’s radical criticism of proportional electoral systems.
