Comments on the Paper by Ramos y Robles (2019): “ On the Rejection of Treatments in Anorexia: Critical Analysis”

Abstract

The paper by Ramos y Robles (2019), published in the issue number 30 of this journal, analyses the rejection of treatment in anorexia nervosa. The current article aims to stimulate the debate by incorporating some comments on competent decision-maker versus best decision-maker, insight into illness versus insight into life with the illness, objective of treatment, effectiveness of treatment, deferred gratitude, sliding-scale of competence, need to know the patient’s wishes. This work concludes raising the possible justification of different modes of action depending on the chronicity of the patient, their insight into life with the illness, the insight-raising component of the intervention and the prospects of therapeutic success.
