Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) promises to improve medicine. AI systems will replace nurses and doctors in routine and/or mechanical tasks, help make better decisions, more reliable diagnoses and machine learning applied to medicine will discover new drugs. However, there are also less optimistic voices. Many believe that medical AI will lead to fatal errors and that the ethical implications of AI applied to medicine are insurmountable: For instance, how to protect data privacy, promote transparency, and clarify the allocation of responsibility or accountability. In this article, I intend to answer two questions: how we get here at the frontier of this new digital medicine? and what will be the future of health?
