Abstract

This paper considers the nursing practice as a Community of Practice (CoP). A CoP is constituted by individuals who relate to each other to face their day-to-day working issues. This work is based on the idea that in these CoP, novice nurses interact and learn, and caring is one of the recurring topics of conversation. Caring does not only involve curing, but is also related to the concept of survival, social living, development and life in a general sense. This needs to consider the ethics of care, where nurse and patient establish and compromise in a two-way relationship. Similarly, the nurse identity is constituted in a reflexive way between the nurse and the CoP. This article contributes to the discussion of the forms of learning, the ethics of caring and the construction of nurse identity in the nurse CoP.
