Interview with Prof. Macannell
Abstract
Dean MacCannell (Washington, 1940), Professor Emeritus of Landscape Architecture at the University of California at Davis, is an internationally renowned author in the anthropology, sociology and ethics of tourism, with fundamental works such as The Tourist: A New Theory of the Leisure Class (1976), Empty Meeting Grounds (1992) - both published in Spain by Melusina - and The Ethics of Sightseeing (2011). Considering that one of the main attractions of his work is his ability to capture the relationship between tourism and the cultural and socio-economic transformations of the last fifty years, we wanted to ask him a series of questions to explore his work in greater depth and reflect on tourism in the post-pandemic world of Covid-19.
