Donald A. Gillies offers in this article a personal narration of his encounters with Imre Lakatos, Karl R. Popper and Paul K. Feyerabend while he was still a PhD student at the London School of Economics in the late 1960s. Intellectual context is that of the philosophy of the social sciences.
